Samsung CARES! :
E-Community Technology Center for Unemployed Youths is a social
project to empower 350 unemployed youths in economically disadvantaged
neighborhoods to acquire e-skills, e-entrepreneurial knowledge
and improved e-access to occupational information. E-skills,
which comprise both general and specific employability, will
enable the youths to seek better job opportunities. E-entrepreneurial
knowledge will allow them to use the knowledge gained to initiate
digital micro-enterprises in their own neighborhoods. Access
to online occupational information will enable the youths
to further studies in local youth training institutes or to
join an apprentice program in manufacturing companies.
Unemployment among youths is a serious and persistent problem
; more than 50% of the total youths in the target areas are
currently unemployed due to low education level, lack of any
marketable skills and involvement in negative activities such
as drug abuse, gangsterism, loafing and juvenile delinquencies.
Samsung CARES!
will be a pilot project to address youth unemployment issues
by offering a one-stop community technology center to alleviate
youth unemployment via technological means. Unemployed youths
are our intellectual capital, which left un-harnessed, untrained
and untapped will only pose danger to the aspirations of our
nation.
