Juveniles to be allowed to attend collages

Melacca : Juveniles from Henry Gurney school will have a chance to attend collage, even while they are serving their sentence at the rehabilitation centre. Once the Henry Gurney School Regulation 1949 is amended.
"With the new regulation, they can leave the centre to go for classes in public and private collages." Said prison department director-general Datuk Mustafa Osman.
The juvenile will have to return to the centre after attending the classes.
At present, juvenile are forbidden to leave the centre until they have served their sentence, and all studies and training have to be done at the centre, he said.
"We are going to suites the changing times. Education is the priority now." He told the press conference after attending the launch of the Samsung youthpreneur programme. Which provides computer training the boys at Henry Gurney School Teluk Emas.
Mustafa said a proposal to replace current regulations had been submitted to the Internal Security Ministry and Attorney-General Chambers.
They proposed amendments will also include allowing parents to attend counseling session together with the boys.
"This will give them more quality time to be together." he added.
In the related matter, Internal Security Ministry Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yussof said the gorverment was planning to set up a juvenile prison under the Ninth Malaysian Plan to separate youngsters form adult prisoners.
