HELP TROUBLE RURAL YOUTH
Putrajaya : Non-gorvenment bodies should start focusing their
activates and programmes on helping youth on rural areas.
Youth and Sport Minister Datuk Azlina Othman said most NGO likes
the federation of Peninsular Malay Student (GPSM) tented to centre
their service on youth who had archived some form of success in
their studies and shown some potential in leadership roles.
“But how about those youth in rural areas who continue
to drop out school? They are more in need of help.” She
reporters after meeting the new GPMS exco line up at her Ministry
here yesterday.
“These youth may not be interested in formal education
but maybe, with the right vocational and technical training. They
can lead productive live and become good leader.”
“Many activites are now held in cities. We want NGO to
start thinking about organizing activites in rural areas because
at the moment, there are now enough representative from the Ministry
in these area.”
For instance, Azlina said, GPMS which had close to 159 branches
throughout the country could have its members act as liaison members
to these youth on be half of Ministery.
“We want to work together with GPSM to create a new partnership
that can actually benefit youth in the rural areas. Youth in different
area have different social problem.” She said.
“That why we will compare data gleaned by the ministry
on the different social problems faced by youth and that gathered
by GPSM on those inclined towards juvenile delinquency, and thinks
of ways to help them.” She said.
Azlina said is was time that the ministry embarked on a full
scale project to actively reach out to youth.
GPSM president Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the body, which
was caught in a leadership tussle for close to a year, was now
reorienting itself.
“we are in the healing phase, we also intense to further
strengthen our programme particularly those forces on education.”
He said.
